Diagnosed with a disease that's both hard to pronounce and treat, Daniel Bair braved through his bout with Astrocytoma during his treatment at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. It was there that his exemplary courage gotten the attention of those organizing the 2011 Doernbecher Freestyle, a partnership between Doernbecher and Nike. Now in its eighth year, the collection of limited Nikefootwear, designed by patients of Doernbecher, have raised over $3 million for the medical center. This year, as with every year, six participants contributed their personalized designs, in part to tell their stories and another as symbolic encouragements to other diagnosed with the same disease. In the case of Bair, its just a simple inspiration of "Be Brave" with a lightening bolt as inspiritment. Imprinted on the sockliner inside, a simple statement "Just Like Everybody Else" abolishes the stigma those with debilitating illness sometime goes through.
